Kala Amb in Panipat

Panipat is an historical place on the map of India, and witnessed many eventful years since the epic Mahabharata. Kala Amb is also one of the astonishing places in the tourism of Panipat. Panipat faced three major battles fought from 1526 to 1761 AD which has given significant impact on the history of this place. In this series, Kala Amb is placed on the top of historical places due to its significance in Indian chronology.

Panipat Battle Field

Kala Amb is the same place where third battle of Panipat was fought between Marathas and Afghan invader Ahmad Shah Durrani. It is a beautiful place situated 4 km away from main city. It was built during 1992 on behest of Udaysinrao Gaekwad and transformed into a splendid place of attraction. Due to its renovation it became popular among the tourists and lots of people started to visit this place.

Kala Amb smarak was built in pillar shapes looking like small tower and one rod on the top jammed vertical in the pillar. This pillar is made of bricks which are red in color. From bottom it is much bigger in base and as its height increased, its circumference decreased. This monument is incepted on the beautiful platform of sand stone with surrounded periphery of iron rods. It is fringed by natural vegetation of surrounding which gives ample peace and pleasant environment for visitors. On the monument of Kala Amb the information about the war is written in Urdu and English on white marble which is carved in the middle of pillar.

Kala Amb is completely transformed in to tourist attraction which is not believed to be war venue looking at present scenic views of this spot. The monument is accompanied by museum and garden in its vicinity. Visitors coming to see this attraction are mesmerized with the atmosphere of this scenic place. The place in itself seems to be spiritual location where souls of Maratha warriors are living in peace. People can visit museum to know more about the history and gather more information regarding the wars of Panipat. Garden in itself provides calmness and enthusiasm to the travelers. Visitors feel more energetic after visiting this historical place.

History of Kala Amb through Third Battle of Panipat:

History of Kala Amb in PanipatThis battle was fought on 14th January 1961 between Maratha led by Sadashivrao Bhau and Afghan invader Ahmed Shah Abdali. It is said that more than 50 thousand Marathas were killed at this place by the troops of Afghani. Marathas lost the battle to Abdali and Sadashivrao Bhau and Vishwasrao Peshwa lost their lives in this battle.

It is said to be the most brutal battles of Indian history and it is believed that at this very place there used to be mango tree which vanished in period of time. The battle caused so much blood bath that fruits of that mango tree used to be black in color; hence this place is termed as Kala Amb. Some people also say that dark red blood used to flow from that tree from any cut occurring in the tree.

For Marathas it is still a shrine place where they visit to remember the brave Maratha soldiers who lost their lives. Many survivors of this war got settled in the villages near this place and their successors are still living in the villages of Panipat.

Kala Amb is located on the Sanoli Road near Panipat. It is nearly 4 km away from main city and positioned towards the eastern side of Panipat.

Visitors can take any means of transport to reach this place. Locals like to travel by bikes to reach there.
